In 2022, the Mining Impacts Calculator was selected as a finalist in the Conservation X Labs ASM Grand Challenge. The tool was awarded US$1 million for implementing new actions to reduce the impacts of small-scale artisanal gold mining in the Amazon. With the incentive, CSF invested in expanding the Calculator to Ecuador, adding to the tool's adaptation to Peru and Colombia. Thanks to the challenge, field information was collected and methodology validation workshops were held with local actors.

The Conservation X Labs Grand Challenge is a global call for solutions to transform artisanal and small-scale gold mining into a more environmentally responsible and socially equitable practice. CSF and other finalists also received consulting to develop innovations in partnership with local organizations through Amazon CoLab, a six-month acceleration program.
